The Tango region north of Maizuru facing the Sea of Japan, where nature and people’s lives are strongly felt, gradually changed its appearance around the time when the turbulent Showa period ended and the Heisei period began.
Depopulation led to an increase in fallow rice paddies and the construction of new buildings. The once beautiful scenery of terraced rice paddies was now covered with weeds and looked miserable due to the lack of manpower...
The “Japanese National Railways,” which had served as the community’s transportation system, was renamed the “JR” and replaced by the private sector and the third sector. The red brick warehouses, Amanohashidate, and ancient temples that remain today to convey the history of the past in their original form. The time passes by as if nothing has happened...
Photography has evolved with the times, and the recording media, which at the time were mostly film, have been replaced by digital technology, making it easier to take pictures. Naturally, this photo collection was taken in a time when there was no digital technology, and all images were mainly shot on 4x5-inch and Brownie film.
I wanted to preserve “those days,” and with a sense of nostalgia, I began to organize the photos I had taken, and selected from many of them, compiled this collection.
