[About the Book]
— The Jomon Legacy Hidden in Kyushu —
There was once a prevailing belief that the Jomon period might not have existed in Kyushu, given the scarcity of Jomon archaeological sites. However, in recent years, numerous pre-Jomon sites have been unearthed across the region. Notably, the Uenohara Ruins in Kagoshima Prefecture, a vast settlement that flourished over 4,000 years before Aomori’s famous Sannai-Maruyama site, have reshaped our understanding of Kyushu’s ancient past.
This book is a travelogue documenting the author's exploration of these ancient sites, including Uenohara, and various ruins deeply influenced by maritime culture. Richly illustrated with photographs taken by the author, the book provides historical and mythological insights into each location, alongside the author's unique historical perspectives. Step into the footprints of ancient Japan and embark on a journey through the history that unfolded from Kyushu to the rest of the archipelago.
